Navigating the fast-paced world of digital marketing often leads to encountering terms like "MRR, PLR, and RR".

I know, they’re all so similar, but in licensing and legal terms — they’re fundamentally different.

If you’re starting out in digital marketing and a tad confused about the differences, let me break it down in simple terms:

1) PLR

Private Label Rights (PLR) gives the purchaser the right to re-sell the product and re-label the product with their own branding.

This is your creative playground.

It’s like buying a cake mix, adding your special ingredients, and calling it your signature dessert.

So with PLR, you're not just selling a product; you're free to re-edit, rebrand, and repackage it as your own. That means you can freely modify, redesign, and even claim authorship because the license gives creators the freedom to do whatever they want with the original product.

You're allowed to modify the product the way you like — from minor altering to a major makeover— where you can even sell it at a higher price, or give it away as a freebie (depending on the license).

These could be anything like graphics, software, eBooks, course, guides, sales pages, templates, videos, and audios. You have complete creative freedom to customize to your heart's content.

It's also worth noting that terms like White Label and Private Label are often used interchangeably with PLR. So that means that “PLR” is also known as white label content, licensed brandable content, or done-for-you content.

In my opinion, PLR is probably the best type of product license because it gives you the most freedom. Most PLR license entitles you to ‘own’ the entire product and individual copyright.

2) MRR

With Master Resell Rights (MRR), you don’t own the copyright, but you own the ‘Master Rights’.

This means you are free to use or sell the product or sell the same rights to others but you’re restricted from modifying the product from its original form. That means you CANNOT tweak the product in any way, whatsoever!

It's like buying a cake and reselling the slices without changing the recipe, giving your customers the option to also resell it exactly as it is (without ZERO changes or tweaks).

While you don't own the copyright, you do possess the 'Master Rights,' allowing you to sell the product or even sell the same rights to others.

But remember, modification of the product from its original form is strictly prohibited under MRR agreements.

3) RR

With Resale Rights (RR), you can sell the product as is, but you can't alter it or transfer the rights to others.

This means you own the ‘Resell Rights’ but not the copyright.

You’re not entitled to change or alter anything from its original form. You're limited to selling the product as is, without the freedom to modify it in any shape or form.

You cannot sell or transfer these rights to others. And, there may also be other restrictions in each individual RR license.

This make it the most restrictive license.

It’s like buying a cake from a bakery and selling it directly to your customers in your shop without any changes, where they can't sell it to others. Kinda like they have to eat the cake right there in your shop.

RR licences offer a very straightforward path provides simplicity in reselling, with minimal fuss.

PLR vs MRR vs RR

To sum it all up, PLR empowers you to make the product uniquely yours, where MRR gives you the 'Master Rights' to distribute the product further, but without altering its original form, and RR is limited to selling the product as is, without the freedom to make changes or transfer rights to others.

Choosing the right rights depends on your business goals.

If you need creative freedom? PLR is your go-to.

If you want to expand distribution? MRR has you covered.

If you prefer a straightforward approach? Stick with RR.

Remember, always review the license terms to ensure compliance.

Also make sure you check every license before purchasing or reselling a product, and to adhere to the right terms conditions to avoid any legal action.

By mastering MRR, PLR, and RR, you’ll nail digital marketing like a pro, driving your business to success without any legal implications.
